Central
Arkansas Alumnae
Chapter History
The Central Arkansas Alumnae Chapter (CAAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., chartered November 9, 1996 on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. CAAC was conceived through the vision, dedication, and ‘Good Ole Delta Spirit’ of four torch bearers: Jocelyn Crump Williams, Jennifer R. Smith, Jacqueline Williams Lindsey and Dorisene Wallace Hill.
With the rich history of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. firmly etched in their heads these ladies conducted a study of the needs of the central Arkansas area. Major findings were the number of young Deltas who for sundries reasons were not affiliated with an alumnae chapter and the need for additional programs that would be beneficial to the larger community.
In keeping with Delta’s Five Point Program Thrust: Economic Development, Education Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health and Political Awareness and Involvement, Central Arkansas Alumnae sponsors and participates in numerous programs that have proven beneficial to our community.
CAAC’s
programming includes:
-
Scholarship Program: CAAC sponsors signature event each year that provides a scholarship to a deserving high school senior pursuing educational opportunities at a Historical Black College or University.
-
The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy and the Delta GEMS programs, which focuses on girls ages 11-18 with the hopes of involving them in activities to strengthen self-esteem and to enhance their interest in math, science and technology.
-
Health and Healing Workshop where a forum takes place in various Little Rock neighborhoods and teaches participants about issues facing the African American Community (drug abuse, nutrition, depression, HIV/AIDS, etc.)
-
International Day of Service which is a day set aside for all participating Delta chapters to bring HIV/AIDS awareness to the communities that they serve.
-
Delta Days at the Capitol, an annual event held in Washington, DC, where the issues of the communities in which we serve are discussed with policy makers.
-
CAAC has partnered with numerous entities across the central Arkansas area to sponsor literary events, book fairs, book signings, artistic receptions and theatric productions.
Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc. is dedicated to the ideals of Sisterhood, Scholarship
and Public Service. Today,
